Cost Accounting Helps a Business to Thrive and Grow

Cost accounting is really nothing more than capturing the costs of a business, organizing these costs into categories and reporting these costs to management. It doesn't sound complicated does it?

Whether we realize or not, each and every one of us uses it in our daily lives. When we are thinking of buying a new car, we determine what the costs are for the loan payments, the upkeep, insurance, gas, etc. Then we determine if we have enough income to support our new car. This is costing!

Or, how about when we work up our household budgets. We figure out what our costs are and compare it to our income. If there is any income left over then we can spend it ourselves or put it in savings. This is costing too.

Costing gets much more complicated with the complexity of the products and large amounts of transactions. However, the basic concept remains the same.
